A FREE Webcast from your VWEA Sustainable Utilities Committee. The speakers will be Matthew Ries (Managing Director, Technical and Educational Services, Water Environment Federation) and J. Scott Weikert (Vice President, CH2M HILL). Mr. Ries will focus on what sustainability means to our business and what municipalities and organizations are doing to become sustainable. Mr. Weikert will discuss concepts like energy efficiency, biosolids options, LID options, LEED concepts and options during construction.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about sustainability in the water and wastewater industry and share your own experiences. Don’t miss it! Water for People Day in Virginia |
The VAAWWA/VWEA Water For People (WFP) Committee and The Peninsula Water For People Committee are excited to announce:
Water For People Day in Virginia – May 19, 2010
featuring golf tournaments across the state.
Tournaments will be held in Fredericksburg, Salem, & Williamsburg.
The purpose of the designated WFP Day in Virginia is to raise awareness and funds for Water For People www.waterforpeople.org.

Please note there is no online registration available for the Peninsula golf tournament (Golden Horseshoe, Williamsburg). Laboratory Practices Committee Spring Fling Meet N’ Greet |
The VWEA/VA-AWWA Laboratory Practices Committee (LPC) invites all persons interested in finding out more about the LPC to the second annual SPRING FLING MEET N’ GREET on March 17th!
Mark your calendars and plan on an enjoyable afternoon networking and discussing the latest hot laboratory issues with colleagues in a relaxed, professional setting. Be their guest for lunch and meet the members of this active, diverse committee.
The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, including sub-committee and full committee meeting followed by the SPRING FLING MEET N’ GREET lunch. There will be no technical presentation at this meeting.

EPA Sponsoring Free WaterISAC Pro Subscriptions |
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water is providing utility members and circuit riders with free access to
WaterISAC Pro - a unique source of water and wastewater security and
all-hazards information. EPA believes widespread access to this
information will increase overall Water Sector security and resiliency,
and is therefore sponsoring free, 12-month subscriptions to WaterISAC
Pro. WaterISAC Pro services include access to a secure online library of
water security and emergency response information, contaminant
databases, online tools for collaboration, weekly updates and, if
necessary, alerts about water security incidents. Utility members and circuit riders are encouraged to sign up for these free
subscriptions. Signing up is easy and takes only a few moments at www.waterisac.org .

2009 VWEA Safety Award Applications |
It's that time of year again...Time to recognize those wastewater treatment facilities with outstanding health and safety programs! The VWEA Accident Prevention & Safety Committee is currently soliciting nominations for the 2009 VWEA Facility Safety Award and the WEF Burke Award. The purpose of the VWEA Facility Safety Award is to encourage Wastewater Treatment Facilities to participate in promoting an active and effective safety program and to stimulate the collection and reporting of safety data. The purpose of the WEF Burke Award is to encourage an active and effective safety program in municipal and industrial wastewater facilities. GLP Conference - Call for Papers |
The Laboratory Practice Committee hereby invites the submission of abstracts for papers and workshops for the 16th Annual GLP Conference, to be held in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 2nd and 3rd, 2010 at the Omni Charlottesville Hotel. This conference is designed to provide the latest information on major issues such as analytical method updates and development, laboratory accreditation, regulatory updates, particularly those impacting laboratory staff and utilities; and emerging technologies and analytical instrumentation. This is a great opportunity to present new information related to water and wastewater issues. Workshops will be held on the 2nd and the technical presentations will be given on the 3rd.
