2009 VWEA Safety Award Applications |
It's that time of year again...Time to recognize those wastewater treatment facilities with outstanding health and safety programs! The VWEA Accident Prevention & Safety Committee is currently soliciting nominations for the 2009 VWEA Facility Safety Award and the WEF Burke Award. The purpose of the VWEA Facility Safety Award is to encourage Wastewater Treatment Facilities to participate in promoting an active and effective safety program and to stimulate the collection and reporting of safety data. The purpose of the WEF Burke Award is to encourage an active and effective safety program in municipal and industrial wastewater facilities. New Stormwater Regulations Lunch Seminar |
Your EVRAC Committee is pleased to announce another "Eat and Get Smarter" luncheon activity to be held February 10th from 11:30 - 1:00, the topic being the impending Stormwater Regulations and their impacts on the Hampton Roads Region. The luncheon will feature 2 dynamic speakers who will discuss this topic from both the technical and administrative sides, Ms. Jennifer Tribo of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and Mr. Douglas Moseley III of GKY & Associates. Both speakers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table for this pertinent topic, a discussion you will not want to miss!

Lab Analyst Excellence Award Candidates Sought |
The VA AWWA / VWEA Lab Practices Committee is currently seeking candidates for the 2010 Lab Analyst Excellence Award. One of the best ways to acknowledge an exceptional performer is by nominating them for an award. For lab folks, VA AWWA / VWEA offers the Lab Analyst Excellence Award. Details including eligibility and criteria requirements for the award are listed in the Lab Analyst Award document.. The deadline for nomination packages is February 12, 2010. It’s never too early to nominate - so don’t let this recognition opportunity pass you by. NVRAC Utility Energy Management Luncheon |
The Northern Virginia Regional Activities Committee (NVRAC) is pleased to announce the upcoming NVRAC February luncheon, "Energy Rate Analysis, Monitoring and
Demand Response Programs for Utilities", to be held on February 19th. Bob Jennings will educate attendees about energy management and how utilities can contain costs using energy accounting and monitoring programs.
Bob is the President of Westridge Energy, LLC and provides energy consulting services saving customers money largely through rate and contract negotiations via utility and PJM Demand Response Programs.
The luncheon will be held at Fairfax County Government Center.

Effective Utility Management Workshop |
The VWEA/AWWA Utility Management Committee's Effective Utility Management Workshop will be held February 24th from 8:45 to 11:45. The workshop which will be held at the Western Virginia Water Authority's Spring Hollow Water Treatment Plant in Roanoke, Virginia, is designed for utility leaders and others supporting their work. 2010 Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Seminar - Register Now |
The 2010 Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Seminar will be held March
1st and 2nd at the Omni Charlottesville Hotel. The March 1st half-day
workshop entitled “What’s in Your Fries?” will provide information on
FOG management, FOG reuse opportunities, inspection, and maintenance of
grease traps, regulatory issues on the local level, and sampling and
testing. The March 2nd full-day workshop entitled "Technical and
Regulatory Developments in Industrial Waste Management" will feature
speakers from government and industry who will provide important
insights into current regulatory trends, challenges, and technical
advances in industrial wastewater management. More workshop details
including schedule, registration and lodging information can be found

GLP Conference - Call for Papers |
The Laboratory Practice Committee hereby invites the submission of abstracts for papers and workshops for the 16th Annual GLP Conference, to be held in Charlottesville, Virginia on August 2nd and 3rd, 2010 at the Omni Charlottesville Hotel. This conference is designed to provide the latest information on major issues such as analytical method updates and development, laboratory accreditation, regulatory updates, particularly those impacting laboratory staff and utilities; and emerging technologies and analytical instrumentation. This is a great opportunity to present new information related to water and wastewater issues. Workshops will be held on the 2nd and the technical presentations will be given on the 3rd.
