VWEA is a member association of the Water Environment Federation

Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Committee

The I W & P committee consist of members from Industries, municipalities and regulatory sectors. They meet once in a quarter or more often if needed, to plan and organize two major events – Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Seminar and Annual Industrial Environmental Excellence Award. Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Seminar - The committee members select various topics of interests to the attendees and develop a practical program after obtaining speakers who are technical experts on various selected topics.

The technical exhibitors are invited to display their products during the seminar to complement the sessions. The members are involved in detailed seminar organizations that include brochure registration form design, mailing of registration package, local arrangements, meeting room and exhibitor room layouts, audiovisual arrangements, breaks, luncheon and a reception. Annual Industrial Environmental Excellence Award - The Committee sponsors an awards program to recognize Virginia industries displaying outstanding achievements in the field of water quality, emphasizing environmental protection and enhancement.

The industries are nominated by the POTW representative of various localities in Virginia, that have a current pretreatment permit with a POTW, and are in hundred percent (100%) compliance with all the applicable wastewater environmental requirements, for at least one year prior to selection. The nominated industries must also be dedicated to pollution prevention, waste elimination/reduction, waste usage reduction, conservation and recycle. The nominees and their POTW are recognized at the Industrial Waste & Pretreatment.

The winner is given the award at the VWEA Annual meeting and conference. The winner receives a free registration for the annual conference, a plaque and conduit publishing. Further, a representative of the winner industry is a featured speaker during the annual conference. Apart from the above two major events other duties of the members include preparing the committee plan and budget, submitting articles to The Conduit and providing forum for the exchange of information on the issues affecting industrial waste treatment, pretreatment and other related environmental issues.
