VWEA is a member association of the Water Environment Federation

Information Technology Committee (Joint with VA AWWA)

The Information Technology Committee (ITC) is a joint committee of VA AWWA and the Virginia Water Environment Association (VWEA). The ITC is active in promoting the use and integration of information technology within the water and wastewater industries. The committee promotes technology exchange between VA AWWA and VWEA members and the IT industry by working with the members to identify the strategic technology needs of the organizations and providing resources to help with implementation.

The ITC has worked with the VA AWWA and VWEA organizations to implement technology, such as the barcode scanners, that are used to track session attendance at workshops and conferences (including the annual Water JAM) for developing transcripts and certificates for continuing education credits. ITC members coordinate and support the technology needs of other committees as well as the VA AWWA and VWEA organizations during events such as workshops and conferences.

The educational focus of the IT Committee continues at each ITC meeting, where relevant topics surrounding information technology and the water/wastewater industries are presented and discussed with real world experience. Topics discussed within the committee include Field Data Collection, SCADA, GIS, Asset Management, etc. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 12 – 1 pm by teleconference. In addition, the ITC holds two onsite meetings annually, including one in March at the Henrico Water Treatment Plant and the other at Water JAM.
