Safety & Security Committee

The goals of the Safety and Security Committee (previously the Accident Prevention & Safety Committee) are to develop and assist in conducting a safety program which keeps Association members and the public informed of safety issues in the water pollution control field. The committee shall aid in developing and implementing a program to improve the safety record in water pollution control.

This is a joint committee consisting of members from both VA-AWWA Section and VWEA with the chair and vice-chair positions alternating between VA-AWWA Section and VWEA. The term of office for the chair begins at the J.A.M. in September for a term of 2 to 3 years. Membership reflects the geographical distribution of both Associations.

The committee is a resource of industry experts, it provides speakers for conferences and hosts a one-day Safety Seminar in the western part of Virginia. The committee administers programs to recognize water and wastewater utilities with excellent safety records.

VWEA Safety Award - Applications/nominations are now being solicited for the 2012 VWEA Annual Safety Award and the WEF Burke Award. Your municipal or industrial wastewater facility could be recognized for establishing and maintaining an active and effective safety program.       Please complete the application form below and mail to Wayne Sirna/VWEA Safety and Security Committee.  All applications/nominations must be postmarked by April 26th, 2013.

Safety and Security in the Workplace - Back by popular demand, the Safety and Security Seminar will be held in Newport News, VA on March 28, 2013. Many of the same speakers from the Augusta County seminar will be back to share their information again plus some new sessions. Mark your calendars now  and watch out for more information coming in the next few weeks!
