Event Details
UPDATE: Checking the weather forecast, it looks like there's a high potential for storms through Thursday mid-day. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the site visit until Friday, May 11. We will still be hosting two sessions during the same timeframes (1:00 – 3:00 PM & 3:00 – 5:00 PM). We don't want to place additional burden on the contractors by having 40 people show up at the same time, so please try to attend the same session that you originally signed up for. If you can no longer attend or wish to switch sessions, please email me This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will attempt to honor requests for session changes to the best of our ability.
The VWEA Young Professionals (YP) Committee will be hosting a site visit to HRSD's South Trunk Sewers construction project. This project involves the replacement of three miles of 42" and 48" sewer force main in the Ghent section of Norfolk. Some of the key highlights of the tour include the installation of 54", 60" and 66" casing pipe. The methods of casing pipe installation that are being used are Guided Boring Machine (GBM) and Microtunnel Boring Machine (MTBM). Some of the obstacles that must be tunneled under include St. Pauls Boulevard/Monticello Avenue, Colley Avenue, Hampton Boulevard & Norfolk Southern Railroad. This is a great opportunity to see design in production.
Discussions will include:
· Project Needs and Overview
· Overview of Tunnel Equipment and Procedures
· Site Visit to Pipeline Installation
· Site Visit to Tunnel Operations
