The Shenandoah Valley Wastewater Treatment Plant Network will host a Pure Water Forum training session: SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) on September 15th at the Augusta County Government Center. This workshop offers tools for laboratory managers, supervisors and quality assurance officers in maintaining excellence on a tight budget, effective communication with your employees, conducting productive internal audits and maintaining a successful performance testing program.

Efficiency and Sustainability Workshop

This workshop, sponsored by the newly formed Sustainable Utilities Committee and Bioenergy Subcommittee, will present practical sustainability experiences and case studies. Also, the workshop will feature two panel discussions on:
- Regulatory Perspectives on Sustainability and
- Increasing Energy Efficiency at Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs).
The workshop special guests will share their knowledge about sustainability myths and realities, regulatory perspectives and sustainability trends, energy best management practices, their experiences with energy efficiency projects, and recommendations for other utilities trying to save energy with limited resources. The VWEA and VA AWWA Young Professionals and Student Activities
Committees have come together to organize the Young Professionals (YP)
Workshop at the 2010 Virginia WaterJAM Conference. The workshop titled
"Young Professionals – Progressing Forward” will be held Wednesday,
September 22, 2010 at 1:30 pm. This year the theme is focused on young
professionals and finding answers to some of the questions YPs
typically have when working in the water and wastewater industry.
If you are interested in knowing how the wheels spin in the water and
wastewater industry or want to know how a project progresses from
conception to proposal stage within a utility you should plan to attend

The advanced workshop, entitled “Strengthening the Asset Reinvestment Decision Using Advanced Risk Techniques to Determine the End of Asset Life” will be held September 27th and 28th at the Upper Occoquan Service Authority in Centreville, Virginia. Bob Canham and Tom Broderick will provide a presentation and walking tour of Loudoun Water’s Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility. The event will include a luncheon presentation followed by a tour including major processes and the water reuse system. Guests will be invited to also tour Loudoun Water's public education center — the Aquiary. The RSVP deadline for pre-registration is September 24th.
