2010 National Scout Jamboree
The 2010 National Scout Jamboree will be held July 26 - August 4 at Fort AP Hill near Fredericksburg. This year's Jamboree will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. The Water Environment Federation will again be hosting a hands-on exhibit where scouts will learn about watersheds, wastewater treatment, and infrastructure. About 20 volunteers a day will be needed to show kids how we protect water quality and why it is so important. WEF needs volunteers to "...be on-site to help educate and talk to the troops about the importance of water quality and how they can be a part of conserving this essential natural resource".   Help mark this significant milestone and perhaps influence future water quality practitioners. No scouting experience necessary! Click here to find out more or to volunteer, contact Ken Spear (speark@verizon.net).  You can also volunteer by using the RSVP formThank you for volunteering!

The Mid-Atlantic Biosolids Association (MABA) will host a one day seminar and plant tour on optimizing biogas production by adding additional substrates.  The seminar titled "CODIGESTION AT WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS" will be held August 11th at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, PA.  Organic substrates such as grease trap waste, food scraps and other high strength organic wastes represent a possible source of revenue and increased gas production for wastewater treatment plants. They may also present operational problems as well.  At the seminar, learn about the latest developments in this field and tour the Derry Township Municipal Authority anaerobic digester and substrate receiving and processing facility.  For specific details including agenda and registration information, please see the Codigestion brochure and the Substrate Seminar Announcement.
